In honor of the 50th anniversary of Yuri Gagarin’s historic first manned mission into the great beyond. 23 historic missions of man’s exploration of space from the very first satellites to man’s first permanent outpost in Earth orbit. Parties and events are held around the world every April in commemoration of Yuri Gagarin becoming the first human to venture into space on April 12, 1961 with Vostok 1 as the first spaceship. In only three and a half months, Pioneer became the very first mission to enter the Asteroid Belt to explore the outer solar system. A precursor to the Voyager mission, complete with its own version of an interplanetary message… The mission will soon celebrate its 50th anniversary since its launch in 1972.

The Allen Telescope Array is an instrument dedicated to the search for extra-terrestrial signals. Thanks to the far-sighted benevolence of many donors, including Paul Allen (Co-founder of Microsoft) the first 42 elements of the ATA are now online and are continuously scanning the heavens.
