When reading from the pitch, “You’ve found yourself behind the wheel of the TVT Records magical tour bus. It’s part Airstream trailer, part '50s hot rod, part custom van, and part tour bus… But where am I, really?” These were still the early days of the internet, but for the first time, we were pitching the idea that a website is not just an electronic flyer but an actual destination.

While the page is loading, a gas attendant is seen filling you up, and once the page is loaded, he animates away, waving goodbye.

The site we created for TVT Records was also the first hybrid flash/HTML site. Using Macromedia Flash, we introduced a new level of animation and interaction to various areas of the page. For example, an unlimited number of various rock fans board the bus on the homepage in a “clown car” fashion.

“Whimsy is almost an understatement for the TVT Records site. One visit, and you know you’re not in Kansas any more.”

While the final TVT site was amazingly designed (almost entirely) by Robert Reed (currently of 1 Trick Pony), I still appreciate this rough concept I created, which took a more traditional approach. Clearly, the whole world-building concept was stronger and won the day. It was after this project that Flash piqued my interest, and I continued to incorporate it into most of my subsequent projects.

According to the documents the site should have launched around October 4th, 1999.

Btw, TVT was one of the WORST clients we ever had in our 15 year history. It is nice to be able to say that 25 years later.
