Interview with Jonathan Yule
CS: When did you do the work for "Helbotica"?
JY: I created Helbotica when I was thoroughly obsessed with Helvetica in Grade 11 of high school.
CS: What did you think of it when it started showing up all over the internet?
JY: It was quite strange because I thought after the first few years of it being around that only a few people were interested in it. I didn't think people would be so receptive to it but I think it was 'ffffound' first and then BoingBoing picked it up and then Digg just snowballed it all together. It's been great though.
CS: How do you like not having to do any work and collecting commissions on art you made months ago?
JY: It's pretty sweet now but back when I wasn't making any money from it was pretty rough. It's a nice little dividend for something I did for fun and practice.
CS: What part of you is most robot.
JY: I'm not sure what my friends would say but I would say I'm pretty systematic in acquiring information, useless or not, I have to go through and try and acquire the whole picture of something. I might be cold sometimes but not all robots are. Look at R2D2, sensible and charming.
CS: Can you name all 51 robots on our "weRobot" tee shirt design?
JY: Nahhh
CS: Battlestar or Lost?
JY: Lost, only because I'm sad to say I have not seen Battlestar Galactica.
CS: Give us your top 5 robots.
JY: Gonk, IG-88, Imperial Probe Droid, Hektor, R2-D2
